Chef/Baker Residency
Support & Expectations
We’re excited to welcome chefs and bakers to our rural community of Liberal, Kansas. This residency is designed for culinary artists who want dedicated time to develop recipes, share food with the community, and explore the creative side of cooking and baking in a public-facing kitchen.
During your residency, we provide housing, kitchen access, and stipends so you can focus on creating, teaching, and serving the community.
Residency Length
Residencies are generally one month in length.
Shorter or longer stays may be considered by request, based on availability, scheduling, and proposed programming.
What We Provide
Travel Stipend
Up to $500 travel reimbursement
(Submit receipts for airfare or mileage, gas, shuttle, or rental car)
Food Stipend
$20 per day food stipend
Flat rate, paid directly to you
Weekly Cooking & Baking Supplies Budget
A weekly budget for cooking or baking ingredients and supplies used for residency programming.
Intended for food used in public meals, baked goods, or workshops
Must be submitted in advance and approved prior to purchasing
Reimbursement or purchasing method to be coordinated with Baker Arts staff
Housing
Free private living quarters including:
Private bedroom & bathroom
Kitchen access
On-site shared laundry (no extra cost)
Kitchen Access
Use of the Baker Kitchen for food preparation, classes, and public meals
Access scheduled collaboratively with Baker Arts staff
Staff Support
Support from Baker Arts staff to help schedule, promote, and coordinate meals, sales, and workshops
What We Ask in Exchange
To help us grow our creative and culinary community, we ask each Chef or Baker in Residence to participate in the following:
Food Sales During Residency
Residents are encouraged to offer food to the public during their stay, which may include:
Weekly lunch or dinner
Baked goods or specialty items
Other food offerings approved and scheduled with Baker Arts
Details regarding pricing, scheduling, and logistics will be coordinated collaboratively with Baker Arts staff.
Public-Facing Educational Programming
At least one class, workshop, or demonstration during the residency, such as:
Cooking or baking classes
Technique demonstrations
Recipe development or themed food workshops
Programming will be planned collaboratively and shaped around your strengths, interests, and culinary focus.
Living & Creating at Baker
While you’re here, you’ll have:

Application Requirements
When applying, chefs and bakers should submit:
Short Bio or Resume – Culinary background, training, or experience
Work Samples – Photos of food, menus, or links to past projects (restaurants, pop-ups, bakeries, etc.)
Residency Interest Statement – What you hope to explore or create during the residency
Programming Idea – A brief description of potential food offerings and a class or workshop
